〘 noun 〙① A child's toy. A small drum. It is so named because of its small shape. A small drum. ② An instrument used in folk performing arts. It comes in various shapes, and many are made of a bent metal ring with wire threaded crosswise through it, through which coins with holes are threaded. It is made to sound by shaking or hitting it. ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Koshoku Nidai-otoko (1684), vol. 1 "This place is where women from Kyoto gather to play. The sound of the Zenidaiko Chinese flute and the sound of stilt-walking bells."
