〘Noun〙 The exchange rate between coins and gold/silver coins during the Edo period. In 1609 , the shogunate set the gold/coin exchange rate at 1 ryo = 4 kanmon, but thereafter, due to recoinage and changes in economic conditions, the exchange rate went up and down, and by the end of the Edo period, the exchange rate for coins had fallen to around 1 ryo = 7 kanmon. *Edicts from Kanpo Shusei - 32nd year of Genroku 14 (1701), December "Note: Regarding the exchange rate of silver and coins, as was agreed last year, from now on, 1 ryo of gold will be exchanged for 508 momme of silver, and 3 kan 900 mon of coins, which will be higher than the current exchange rate." *Kabuki play, Oguni Gozen Kesho Kagami (1809), finale: "There is no such thing as a coin exchange rate where prices go down or up, so you're being fussy."

〘名〙江戸時代、銭貨と金・銀貨との交換割合。幕府は慶長一四年（一六〇九）金・銭の比価を一両=四貫文と公定したが、その後貨幣の改鋳や経済事情の変動によって高低を重ね、幕末期の銭相場は一両=七貫文前後まで低落した。※御触書寛保集成‐三二・元祿一四年（1701）一二月「覚銀子并銭相場之儀、去年相触候通、向後彌金壱両に銀は五拾八匁替、銭は三貫九百文替之積より高値に仕間敷候」※歌舞伎・阿国御前化粧鏡（1809）大詰「下がれの上がれのと、銭相場(ゼニサウバ)ぢゃアあるまいし、口やかましいおさぶだア」
