A small perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family. It is distributed in Honshu from the Kanto region westward, and grows in the shade of trees on the mountains. There are five large white petal-like sepals, and the petals are yellow, small, bifurcated, and have nectar glands at the base. There are many stamens with pale purple anthers. There are 1 to 5 carpels. It is named after the fact that it blooms around the time of Setsubun.
