Chinoiserie (English spelling)

Japanese: シノアズリー（英語表記）chinoiserie

The term "Sinophile" refers to Chinese-style art and crafts, which originated in the court of Louis XIV and was incorporated into European Baroque and Rococo art from the late 17th century to the mid-18th century. It refers to works that incorporate Chinese or Japanese art and crafts, imitations of those art and crafts, or strange works that were created with the idea of being Chinese, but it is a general term for works that use Chinese or Oriental figures, scenes, patterns, etc. as decorative motifs. Furniture is the most common, but there are also examples in paintings and prints.

ルイ14世の宮廷における中国趣味に端を発し，17世紀後半から 18世紀中頃までヨーロッパのバロックやロココ様式（→ロココ美術）の美術に取り入れられた中国趣味，あるいは中国風の美術工芸品。中国や日本などの美術工芸品を一部に組み込んで作った作品から，それらの模造品，あるいは中国風と考えられて制作された奇妙な作品などさまざまであるが，中国や東洋風の人物，情景，文様などを装飾モチーフに用いた作品を総称する。家具類をその代表とし，陶磁器，織物，室内装飾に多く，絵画や版画にも作例がみられる。
