Rinzai
[1][1] A Chinese monk from the Tang Dynasty. The founder of the Rinzai sect. His given name was Gigen and his imperial posthumous name was Eisho Zenji. He was so named because he lived in the Rinzai Temple in Zhenzhou (Hebei Province). He was from the southern part of Caozhou (Shandong Province ). He followed the teachings of Obaku Kiyun, and his teachings were so rigorous and bold that he was called "the spirit of Rinzai and the pole of the virtuous mountain." The collection of his teachings is called the Rinzairoku. He died in 867. [2] One of the seven types of tea bowls made by Raku Chōjirō. Akaraku. Currently lost. [2] [Name] An abbreviation of "Rinzaishū (Rinzai sect)." *From "Kōzen Gokokuron" (1198), "Rinzai is now at its peak."
