〘noun〙 The prohibition against killing living things. The prohibition against hunting or killing birds, animals, fish, etc., based on the Buddhist spirit of compassion. Prohibition against killing. ※Biography of Toganoo Myoe Shonin (c. 1232-50) Part 2 "This mountain is a place where the Three Treasures have been donated, and therefore it is a place where killing is forbidden (sesshaukindan) ."
