Sequani tribe - Sequani (English spelling)

Japanese: セクアニ族 - セクアニぞく（英語表記）Sequani

The name of an ancient Celtic tribe that lived between the upper reaches of the Seine and the Jura Mountains. Their main towns included Vesontio (present-day Besançon). They were in conflict with the Aedui, and were victorious with the help of the Germanic Ariovistus, but were in turn forced into subjugation by them. In 58 BC, Caesar intervened and defeated the Germanic people. During the imperial period, they were part of the province of Gaul-Belgica. They participated in the Vindex revolt in 68. In the 4th century, they were included in the province of Maxima Sequanorm along with the areas inhabited by the Helvetii. [Kouji Takako]
