Sextus Empiricus, Latin name. A Greek philosopher of the 2nd century who preceded Diogenes Laertius. Dates of birth and death unknown. One of the leading figures of skepticism. As his name "Ho Empirical" suggests, he was also a physician who valued experience. His works, such as "Outlines of Pyrrhonism (Pyrrhonei Hypotyposeis)," are not only valuable resources for the study of skepticism, but are also important resources for the study of Greek philosophy in general.

ラテン名セクストゥス･エンピリクスSextus Empiricus。ディオゲネス･ラエルティオスに先行する2世紀のギリシアの哲学者。生没年不詳。懐疑主義の代表者の一人。また〈ホ･エンペイリコス＝the Empirical〉という名前の示すように経験を重んずる医学者でもあった。その著書，例えば《ピュロン主義概説(ピュロネイオイ･ヒュポテュポセイス)》などは懐疑主義研究にとっての貴重な資料であるばかりか，広くギリシア哲学研究の重要な資料である。
