A carrying device made of a woven bag made of straw or vines with a shoulder strap attached so that it can be carried on the back. It is mainly used in mountainous areas, and is used to carry tools and lunch boxes when working in the mountains or hunting. Because it is relatively small, it can also be used in conjunction with other backpack carrying devices. For example, porters sometimes tied a backpack containing a lunch box or other items to a ladder on their back along with their belongings. Based on how it was used, it is believed that the older form is a coarsely woven bag made of vines. [Kanji Kurumizawa] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
