Ballistic trajectory

Japanese: 弾道軌道 - だんどうきどう（英語表記）ballistic trajectory

For orbits around the Earth, it refers to an elliptical orbit whose perigee is inside the radius of the Earth and whose orbit appears as part of a parabolic arc from the Earth's surface. In a broader sense, it refers to the entire path taken in free flight, and can also refer to the path taken by an interplanetary probe without a permanent propulsion system to encounter a target planet. The trajectories of small sounding rockets, intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), and intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBMs) all fall into this category. Ballistic trajectories require low speeds and can be easily achieved with small rockets, making them suitable for short-term space flight experiments and observations.

地球周辺の軌道に対しては，楕円軌道の近地点が地球半径の内側にあって，その軌道が地表面では放物線弧の一部に見える軌道をいう。広義には，自由飛行の場合の経路全体を意味しており，恒常的な推進機関をもたない惑星間探査機が目的惑星に遭遇するための経路を示す場合もある。小型観測ロケットや大陸間弾道ミサイル(ICBM)，中距離弾道ミサイル(IRBM)の軌道はいずれもこれに属する。弾道軌道は必要速度が小さく小型ロケットで十分実現でき，短時間の宇宙飛行実験や観測に適している。
