Steelworks - Seitetsujo

Japanese:
Steelworks - Seitetsujo
Currently, it refers to a steelworks that performs all the processes from pig iron production to steel product production. A factory that only produces steel and rolls is not called a steelworks. The raw material receiving and processing facilities, steelmaking and rolling factories, etc. are rationally arranged around the pig iron production facilities such as blast furnaces, coke ovens, and hot stoves, and unified production management is carried out. An economical scale is said to be more than 7 million tons of pig iron per year with several blast furnaces, but today's new steelworks are often on the 10 million tons scale. In Japan, which relies on overseas sources for steelmaking raw materials, all steelworks have been coastal steelworks since the government-run Yawata Steel Works was founded in 1896. However, in recent years, with the depletion of domestic resources in Europe and the United States, steelworks are shifting from inland steelworks in coal and iron ore producing areas to coastal locations that are advantageous for both receiving raw materials and shipping products.
