A general term for haiku and haiku styles practiced during the Genroku period of the Edo period. It was based on an elegant haiku style based on "kokorozuke" and "kimochizuke." When the Danrin style of non-mindedness and different style reached a dead end, the entire haiku world tried to overcome it by repeated trial and error, and in that sense, the progression from Teimon style to Danrin style to Genroku style was an inevitable course for the history of haiku. However, even though it is generally called the Genroku style, its content varied, and according to Gion Shui Monogatari published in 1691 (Genroku 4), "If even the words are skillful and clever, it is possible to make a good point even if the heart is shallow. 江戸元禄期に行われた俳諧・俳風の総称。“心付(こころづけ)”“景気付”を主体とする優美な俳風が基調をなした。それは,談林風の無心異体がゆきづまったとき,それを克服すべく俳壇全体が試行錯誤を繰り返した結果いたり着いた有心(うしん)の正風体で,その意味では,貞門風→談林風→元禄風は俳諧史のたどる必然的なコースだったといえよう。ただし一口に元禄風とは言っても,その内容はさまざまで,1691年(元禄4)刊《祇園拾遺物語》によると,〈詞さへ巧みに利口なれば,心浅くてもよき点するあり。
