Yurii Alekseevich Gagarin

[Died] March 27, 1968. Vladimir. Soviet cosmonaut. On April 12, 1961, he became the first person in history to fly in space aboard Vostok 1. He orbited the Earth in one hour and 48 minutes, and commented that the Earth was blue when viewed from space. At the age of 27, he became a national hero in the Soviet Union. His father was a carpenter on a collective farm. He graduated from the Secondary Technical College in Salad and the Aviation Club, and then from the Aviation Academy in Orenburg with honors (1957). In November 1957, he married I. Valentina. After his space flight, he traveled around the world as an international goodwill ambassador, and arrived in Japan in May 1962. He served as a cosmonaut corps commander and other positions, and was promoted to Air Force Colonel, but during training in a jet plane, an accident occurred and the plane crashed in a village in Vladimir Oblast near Moscow, and he died at the young age of 34.
