二十八宿の南方七宿の四番目。星(せい)の和名。海蛇座のα(アルファ)星を中心とする星宿。「熱(ほとお)る星」の意で、赤く熱するように見えたところからいうか。せいしゅく。※和爾雅(1688)一上「二十八宿、〈略〉星(ホトヲリホシ)
