A type of magnesium alloy. It was developed in the UK as a fuel cladding material for natural uranium fuel, carbon dioxide cooled nuclear reactors (Caulder Hall type reactors) for power generation. This reactor is in operation in Japan as Tokai No. 1. The composition of the practical alloy is 0.8% Al-0.01% Be. Magnesium does not absorb many thermal neutrons, so natural uranium can be used as a fuel, but oxidation in carbon dioxide gas used as a coolant at high temperatures is a problem. This alloy improves oxidation resistance by adding a small amount of alloy to magnesium, and is named after the initials of magnesium no oxidation.

マグネシウム合金の一種。イギリスで発電用の天然ウラン燃料･炭酸ガス冷却型原子炉(コールダーホール型炉)の燃料被覆材として開発されたもの。この炉は日本では東海1号炉として稼働している。実用合金の組成は0.8％Al‐0.01％Beである。マグネシウムは熱中性子をあまり吸収しないので燃料として天然ウランを利用することができるが，高温で冷却材としての炭酸ガス中での酸化が問題であり，この合金はマグネシウムに少量の合金を添加することで耐酸化性を改善したもので，magnesium no oxidationの頭文字をとって名づけられた。
