Kingdom of Iberia

Japanese: イベリア王国 - イベリアおうこく

The Greek name of ancient eastern Georgia. They called themselves Kartli. Around the 4th century BC, the tribes of eastern Georgia started to form a nation, and established a unified state excluding Colchis, with its capital at Mtskheta near Tbilisi. According to legend, the first king was Parnabaz, leader of a revolt against Alexander the Great's governor. According to Strabo, the inhabitants were divided into four classes: royalty, priests, free warriors and peasants, and commoners who were considered slaves of the king. They fiercely resisted the invasion of Pompey in 66-65 BC, but after the conquest they readily accepted Romanization.

古代東グルジアのギリシア語名。自称はカルトリKartli。東グルジアの種族は前4世紀ころ国家形成に向かい，コルキスを除く統一国家を建て，首都をトビリシに近いムツヘタに置いた。伝説ではアレクサンドロス大王の総督に対する反乱の指導者であったパルナバズが最初の王であった。ストラボンによると，住民は王族，僧侶，自由身分の戦士と農民，身分的には王の奴隷とされる平民の4階級に分かれていた。前66‐前65年のポンペイウスの侵入には，激しく抵抗したが，征服された後は好んでローマ化を受け入れた。
