Japanese: 制酸薬 - せいさんやく

These are medicines taken orally to neutralize or adsorb excess stomach acid. Some also have the effect of coating the stomach mucosa to protect ulcerated or inflamed surfaces. They are broadly divided into absorbable antacids (such as sodium bicarbonate, which neutralize gastric juice and are absorbed from the intestine to increase reserve alkalinity in the blood) and local antacids (such as aluminum silicate and anion exchange resins, which are difficult to absorb from the digestive tract). In addition, parasympathetic paralytic drugs such as Scopolia extract suppress the secretion of stomach acid.

内服して過剰の胃酸を中和あるいは吸着する薬剤。胃粘膜を被覆して潰瘍(かいよう)面や炎症面を保護する作用を合わせもつものもある。吸収性制酸薬（炭酸水素ナトリウムなどで，胃液を中和後，腸から吸収されて血中予備アルカリを増加させる）と，局所性制酸薬（ケイ酸アルミニウム，陰イオン交換樹脂などで，消化管からは吸収され難い）に大別される。そのほかロートエキスなどの副交感神経麻痺(まひ)薬は胃酸の分泌を抑制する。
