Bagworm moth

Japanese: ミノガ(蓑蛾) - ミノガ（英語表記）bagworm moth

A general term for insects of the Lepidoptera, family Psychidae. The larvae are bagbugs that build unique bags and live inside them, from which they emerge with their heads and thorax to feed on plant leaves. They become moths when they become adults, but the most primitive type in which both males and females have wings is rare, and most females have degenerate wings and are unable to fly. Among the wingless females, there are those with three pairs of legs and those whose legs have degenerated. Males fly around actively during the day, reaching and mating with females due to the sexual attractant released by the female. Among the females with degenerate wings, there are those that go outside the bag to wait for males, and those that stay inside the bag their whole life and wait for the male to fly in.

鱗翅目ミノガ科Psychidaeの昆虫の総称。幼虫は，独特のみのをつくりそのなかにすんで頭部や胸部を出して植物の葉を食べるミノムシである。成虫はガとなるが，雌雄ともに翅をもつもっとも原始的なタイプは少なく，大部分は雌は翅が退化し飛ぶことができない。無翅の雌のなかには3対の脚のあるものと，脚の退化したものがある。雄は昼間活発に飛び回り，雌の放出する性誘引物質によって，雌に到達し，交尾する。翅の退化した雌のなかには，みのの外に出て雄を待つタイプと，一生みのから出ないで，雄の飛来を待つものとがある。
