Marbled cat (English spelling)

Japanese: マーブルキャット（英語表記）marbled cat

A mammal of the Felidae family in the carnivora order (illustration). Its appearance resembles that of a clouded leopard, but it is a much smaller wildcat, about the size of a house cat. It is found in areas from Nepal to Indochina, the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. Its body length is 45-53 cm, its tail length 47-55 cm, and its weight 2-5 kg. It has a slender body and a very long tail. Its fur is thick and soft, with a base color ranging from brownish gray to light yellow or reddish brown, and it has large cloud-shaped spots bordered with black on its sides. The rest of its body is dotted with scattered black spots, and the tail has a ring-shaped pattern.

食肉目ネコ科の哺乳類（イラスト）。外形はウンピョウに似るが，体ははるかに小型でイエネコ大のヤマネコ。ネパールからインドシナ，マレー半島，スマトラ，ボルネオに分布。体長45～53cm，尾長47～55cm，体重2～5kg。体つきは細く，尾が非常に長い。体毛は厚く柔らかく，地色は褐色を帯びた灰色から明るい黄色あるいは赤褐色で，体側には黒色でふちどられた大きな雲形の斑紋がある。その他の部分には黒点が散在し，尾では輪状紋となる。
