A record of the words and deeds of Tokugawa Mitsukuni, the second lord of the Mito domain. It was compiled in 1701 (Genroku 14) (the year after Mitsukuni's death) by three men who served Mitsukuni: Miki Yukimoto, Miyata Kiyosada, and Makino Kazutaka. It has 5 volumes. It is also called "Togen Iji." Not only does it contain a wealth of anecdotes, but it also contains many events that are unique to this book, making it an extremely valuable biographical historical resource on Mitsukuni. Written in Japanese, it is the most widely circulated of Mitsukuni's biographies, and is also important in that it had a major influence on the formation of Mitsukuni's image in later generations.
