Jeune France (English spelling)

…The year after graduating from the conservatory (1931), he became the organist at the Trinite Church in Paris, and thereafter began composing while working as an organist. In 1936, he formed a group of composers called Jeune France with Jolivet, Daniel Lesueur, and Baudriere, and in opposition to the neoclassicism of the Group des Sextets, which had been the mainstream since the 1920s, they advocated the restoration of humanism in music. He was mobilized as a private in World War II, and was taken prisoner by the German army in 1940. …
