Ikumo Village

...A town in Abu District, northern Yamaguchi Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Abu River, which flows into the Sea of ​​Japan, and is a mountainous rural area bordering Tsuwano Town, Shimane Prefecture. In 1955, the five villages of Kane, Tokusa, Jifuku, Shinobu, and Ikumo merged, renamed, and became a town. Population: 9,133 (1995). Tokusa, where the town office is located, developed as a market town along the Sekishu Highway in the early modern period, and is currently the center of eastern Abu District, with National Route 9 and the JR Yamaguchi Line passing through it. The Tokusa Basin, which was a lake basin created by the Nosaka volcanic group on the prefectural border, is the largest rice-growing region in the northern part of the prefecture, and in recent years has also become popular as a fruit growing and dairy farming area. The apples of Nabekura and the pears near Nagatokyo have been successful as tourist agriculture.
