Soyuz spaseniya

...The name "Decemberists" came from the Russian word for December. In 1816, the first secret society, the Soyuz Spaseniya, was formed by six young officers of the Imperial Guard, including Aleksandr N. Murav'yov (1792-1863) and Ivan D. Yakushkin (1793-1857). All of them had participated in the Napoleonic Wars, and during the war they came into contact with soldiers of peasant origins and learned about the miserable conditions of their lives.
