Kofukai - Kofukai

An art group for Western painting and crafts. After the Hakuba-kai was dissolved in 1911 (Meiji 44), Nakazawa Hiromitsu, Yamamoto Morinosuke, Miyake Katsumi, Sugiura Hisui, Okano Sakae, Kobayashi Kanekichi, and Atsumi Tai, who were mid-level members of the Hakuba-kai, formed the group the following year and held its first exhibition at the Ueno Takenodai Exhibition Hall in June of the same year. After that, a crafts department was established and Kobayashi Mango, Minami Kunzo, Tsuji Hisashi, Kojima Torajiro, and Kitou Nabesaburo were successively welcomed as members, and the group holds an open exhibition every spring. Although it did not have any particular principles at the time of its founding, it has continued to exist as an official art group that focuses on a moderate realistic style, and is currently a strong supporter of the Nitten Exhibition alongside the Issui-kai.

洋画、工芸の美術団体。1911年（明治44）白馬(はくば)会が解散したのち、その中堅会員であった中沢弘光、山本森之助、三宅克己、杉浦非水、岡野栄、小林鐘吉、跡見泰(たい)らが発起人となり翌12年に結成、同年6月上野竹之台陳列館において第1回展を催した。その後、工芸部を新設し、小林万吾(まんご)、南薫造(くんぞう)、辻永(ひさし)、児島虎次郎(とらじろう)、鬼頭鍋三郎(きとうなべさぶろう)らを順次会員に迎え、毎年春に公募展を開催している。創立に際しとくに掲げた主義主張はないが、穏健な写実的作風を主流とする官展系美術団体として存続し、現在一水会と並ぶ日展の強力な支持団体となっている。
