A systematic collection of control devices introduced to operate plants, factories, etc. smoothly and according to plan. Plants and factories are collections of many processes. Each process is diverse, such as a process to make intermediate or final products from raw materials or intermediate products, or a process to move or inspect products. As times have changed, plants and factories have become larger and more complex, but the development of the control systems that support them has been remarkable. Below we will briefly trace the process of that development.
