Kitahama Primeval Flower Garden

Japanese: 北浜原生花園 - きたはまげんせいかえん

Also known as Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden. Located in northeastern Hokkaido, it is part of Abashiri Quasi-National Park. It is located on the sand dunes along the Sea of Okhotsk coast, stretching from JR Kitahama Station on the Senmo Main Line to Hamakoshimizu, about 12km east to west and 100 to 700m wide, and includes the marshes around Lake Tofutsu. In the grasslands, large colonies of Rugosa rose, Hemerocallis sieboldii, Siberian lilies, bush clover, and Iris arvensis form a natural flower garden. The flowering season is concentrated in June to September. Lake Tofutsu is famous as a migratory site for swans. It was designated a Place of Scenic Beauty by Hokkaido in 1951.

別称小清水原生花園。北海道北東部，網走国定公園に属する。 JR釧網本線北浜駅から浜小清水に延びる東西約 12km，幅 100～700mのオホーツク海沿岸の砂丘や，濤沸 (とうふつ) 湖周辺の湿原。草原に，ハマナス，エゾキスゲ，エゾスカシユリ，センダイハギ，ヒオウギアヤメなどが大群落をなして天然の花園を形成。開花期は6～9月に集中する。濤沸湖は白鳥の渡来地として有名。 1951年北海道指定の名勝地。
