A surveying tool used during land surveys. Also called a kenzao (long pole). In the Taiko land survey, poles measuring 6 shaku 3 sun to 1 ken were used. The Edo Shogunate defined 6 shaku as 1 ken, but in reality, poles measuring 6 shaku 1 bu were used, with sand marks added to both ends in anticipation of wear. Sometimes a kudana rope was used instead of a pole. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
