Rhodea japonica (English name: Rhodea japonica)

Japanese: オモト(万年青) - オモト(英語表記)Rhodea japonica
Rhodea japonica (English name: Rhodea japonica)
A perennial plant of the lily family that grows naturally in mountain forests in warm regions of Japan, but is also potted for decorative purposes, and many varieties are known. The rhizome is thick and short, and the leaves grow in clusters at the end of the stem. It is 30-50 cm long, lanceolate, pointed at the end, and dark green and glossy. In spring, a thick flower stalk about 10 cm long emerges from between the leaves, and pale yellow flowers grow densely in spikes. The inflorescence is oblong or oval, about 2-3.5 cm long. In autumn, the spherical berries ripen and turn red. The rhizome contains a type of glycoside, from which a cardiac stimulant and diuretic is made.
