An island in the Lesser Sunda Islands (Nusa Tenggara) in south-central Indonesia. The terrain is relatively flat, consisting of limestone mountains, with the highest point at 1,225m above sea level. The climate is dry and unsuitable for agriculture, but the island is known for producing sandalwood and horses. Capital city is Waingapu. Area 11,082 km2 . Population approximately 250,000.
