A large river in northwestern Canada. It originates in Great Slave Lake and flows northwest into the Beaufort Sea, a tributary of the Arctic Ocean. In a broader sense, it includes the Slave River, Lake Athabasca, the Athabasca River, and the Peace River upstream from Great Slave Lake, making it 4,241 km long. Its drainage area is 1,805,000 ^km2 . It is navigable from June to October. The coast is rich in forest and underground resources.

カナダ北西部の大河。グレート・スレーブ湖に発し，北西流して北極海の支海ボーフォート海に注ぐ。広義にはグレート・スレーブ湖から上流のスレーブ川，アサバスカ湖，アサバスカ川，ピース川なども加え全長4241km。流域面積は180万5000km²にもなる。６〜10月航行可能。沿岸は森林資源，地下資源が多い。
