〘Noun〙 (gigantopteris) A fern-like fossil plant that flourished from the end of the Carboniferous Period to the middle of the Permian Period. It has simple or compound leaves and no petioles. The edges of the leaves are sawtoothed , with lateral veins running parallel to the midvein and a mesh-like network of veins. Its classification is unclear, but it is thought to be close to the cycad fern. It is widely distributed from China and Korea to Malacca, Sumatra, and New Guinea.
