The capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the northwest of India. Also known as Srinagar. A beautiful town on the banks of the Jhelum River surrounded by mountains in the western Himalayas. A summer resort at an altitude of 1,600m. Carpets, shawls, silver and copper crafts, and leather products are produced here. There are Buddhist ruins, a mosque, and the palace of a former prince.
