A type of decorative pottery. Also called 'encrusted pottery', it is pottery with a slip glaze applied to the pottery base and decorated with various decorative patterns. The oldest examples date back to Roman times, but it has been actively produced in Germany and England since the 17th century. 装飾陶器の一種。化粧がけ陶器ともいう。陶器の素地に泥漿釉 (スリップ) をかけいろいろな装飾文様を施した陶器。その最古の作例は古くローマ時代にまでさかのぼるが,17世紀以来ドイツやイギリスにおいて盛んに作られた。また東欧や中央アジアの民芸陶器にも多い。
