Born: circa 1661, East Drayton
[died] March 25, 1736. London. British architect. Studied under Christopher Wren. One of the most original architects in British Baroque architecture. Collaborated with John Vanbrugh on the construction of Howard House and Blenheim Palace. Other works include St. Anne's Cathedral in Limehouse, East London (1714-24), Christ Church in Spitalfields (1714-29), and the West Tower of Westminster Abbey (1734-45).
