Free Education Institute (English name)
A Spanish educational institution. It was founded in 1876 by university and secondary school teachers who criticized the conservative Catholic education policy of the Ministry of Education at the time. Its leader was Francisco Giner de los Ríos (1839-1915). He came up with the idea in 1875 while in Cádiz prison, where he was temporarily detained for university issues, and based his ideas on the theories of Julián Sanz del Río (1814-69), who introduced the ideas of the German philosopher Krause, his ultimate goal was to provide ordinary citizens with a free and academic education independent of the church, thereby fostering a driving force for social innovation.
