...Originally, it refers to the double tempo section (usually two bars repeated four times) inserted in the repeating parts of the Cuban folk dances son montuno and danzon, and is said to have been invented by Anselmo Sacasas, Julio Gutierrez, Cachao, and others, or Arsenio Rodriguez, around 1940. It was Cuban-born pianist Perez Prado who created a new music by combining the fast rhythm with crisp saxophone and trumpet ensembles, and from around 1949, he recorded records such as "Que Rico El Mambo" and "Mambo No. 5" in Mexico, causing a worldwide sensation along with the dance steps.
