[Died] April 13, 2006. Florence, Italy. British author. After spending several years in the Central African Federation (Rhodesia-Nyasandra), he worked in the Foreign Office's Information Department during World War II. After the war, he edited a poetry magazine. Since his first full-length novel, The Comforters (1957), he has produced a wide range of works, including Memento Mori (1959), The Ballad of Peckham Rye (1960), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1961), The Mandelbaum Gate (1965), The Driver's Seat (1970), and The Takeover (1976). His style ranges from humorous fantasy to serious novels imbued with Catholicism.

[Died] July 31, 1972, Brussels. Belgian politician. After World War II, he played an important role in cooperation among Western European countries, and in the formation and promotion of the European Economic Community (EEC) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). In 1932 he was a member of the Socialist National Assembly, in 1935 he became Minister of Transport, Posts and Telegraphs, in 1936 he became Foreign Minister, and in 1938 he became the first Socialist Prime Minister. After resigning in 1939 he became Foreign Minister again, and made efforts to maintain Belgian neutrality, but the country was invaded by German forces, and in 1940 he went into exile in London. He returned to Belgium in 1944, and served as Foreign Minister from 1945 to 1947 (during which time he was President of the First United Nations General Assembly in 1946). He was Prime Minister from 1947 to 1950, and during that time he was Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC) and the Council of Europe. In 1952, he served as Chairman of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) General Assembly, and from 1954 to 1957, as Foreign Minister, he worked hard to establish the EEC and the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM). He was Secretary General of NATO from 1957 to 1961, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister from 1961 to 1966.

[Died] March 4, 1975. Vence. Born in Belgium, Vence was a screenwriter active in France. He wrote many masterpieces, especially the screenplays for the masterpieces of J. Feydé and J. Duvivier. His main works are "The Foreign Legion" (1933), "To the Ends of the Earth" (1935), "City of Women" (1935), "Our Companions" (1936), and "The Grand Illusion" (1937).
