Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is a research institute established by the Swedish parliament in 1966 to commemorate 160 years of peace in Sweden, with the aim of promoting disarmament. It is funded by the parliament and has 55 staff members, including researchers from the US, UK, Russia, and other countries. The director of the institute is chosen from a country other than Sweden. The results of the research are widely used by the United Nations, government officials from various countries, and researchers, and the SIPRI Yearbook, published every year, is highly regarded in various fields for its analysis of military spending, weapons production and transfer, and the state of disarmament.
