A former town in Kitakoma County in northern Yamanashi Prefecture. The Wakamiko area in the Sutamagawa River basin is the town's commercial center. Rice farming and sericulture are carried out. The valley and primeval forests upstream of the Shiokawa River, Masutomi Hot Springs, and Mount Mizugaki are all part of Chichibu Tama Kai National Park. In November 2004, the town merged with Takane Town, Nagasaka Town, Hakushu Town, Akeno Village, Oizumi Village, and Takekawa Village in Kitakoma County to become a city, Hokuto City.
