Frederik Willem Stapel

A Dutch scholar of Indonesian colonial history. He graduated from Leiden University in 1908, and worked as a middle school teacher in various parts of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) from 1909 to 1925, and also taught at the National High School in Bandung from 1920 to 1925. During that time, he obtained his doctorate from Leiden University in 1922, and lectured on colonial history as a lecturer at the University of Amsterdam from 1932 to 1944. He wrote many books and papers on colonial history, particularly the five-volume History of the Dutch East Indies, for which he edited all volumes and wrote volumes three and five.

オランダのインドネシア植民史学者。1908年にライデン大学を卒業し，中学校教員としてオランダ領東インド(現，インドネシア)各地で09年から25年まで勤務し，また20‐25年にはバンドンの国民高等学校でも教育に従事した。その間22年にライデン大学で学位を取り，32‐44年にはアムステルダム大学講師として植民史を講義した。植民史に関する著書･論文は多数あり，とくに5巻本の《オランダ領東インド史》は，彼が全巻を編集するとともに，その第3巻，第5巻を執筆した。
