〘Noun〙 (also "nagadoko") 1. A place in a temple or other building where a seat is raised one level above the wooden floor and a long tatami mat is laid out horizontally. This is where monks and others practice their training. ※Eika (around 1028-92) Moto no Shizuku "Like the long floor of a temple room, it is large enough to fit a single tatami mat." 2. A long, splendid tokonoma alcove. ※Ukiyo-zoshi Shin Kasho-ki (1688) 5 "A kodachi is hung on the long floor of the Daishoin ."
