The temple complex faces west and is arranged in a neat symmetrical manner, with the Sanmon Gate (1678), Tennoden Hall (1668), Daibutsu Hall (1668), and Lecture Hall (1662) lined up on the central axis, and the forecourt of the Daibutsu Hall is surrounded by the Bell Tower (1668), Garando Hall (1669), and Saido Hall (1668) to the south, and the Drum Tower (1668), Soshido Hall (1669), and Zen Hall (1663) to the north (all Important Cultural Properties), all connected by corridors. The main buildings have brick floors, square foundations under the pillars, Chinese-style kumiko on the windows and balustrades, semicircular accordion ceilings, and lively roof ridge ornaments, conveying the style of the Chinese Ming and Qing dynasties, and are called Obaku-yo, making them a unique example of Edo period architecture. Moreover, the Buddhas in the temple, including the principal image of the Buddha, a seated Shaka Nyorai statue, were created by the Buddhist sculptor Han Dosei, who was invited by Ingen, and have a very Chinese flavor.

　伽藍は西面して整然とした左右対称形の配置をとり，中軸線上に三門(1678)，天王殿(1668)，大雄宝殿(1668)，法堂(1662)が並び，大雄宝殿の前庭を囲むように，南に鐘楼(1668)，伽藍堂(1669)，斎堂(1668)が，北に鼓楼(1668)，祖師堂(1669)，禅堂(1663)が配され(いずれも重要文化財)，廊で結ばれる。主要な建物は床に塼（せん）を敷き，柱下に角型の礎盤（そばん）を入れ，窓や高欄には中国風の組子を使い，半円形の蛇腹天井を用い，屋根の棟飾をにぎやかにするなど中国明･清時代の様式を伝えており，黄檗様（おうばくよう）とよばれて江戸時代建築の中で異彩を放っている。また本尊釈迦如来座像をはじめとする寺内の諸仏は，隠元に招かれた仏師范道生（はんどうせい）によって制作されたもので，きわめて中国的色彩が強い。…
