Statice - Statice (English spelling)

A general term for the genus Limonium in the Plumageceae family (APG classification: Plumageceae), which is a cold- and drought-resistant annual or perennial plant. Statice is an old genus name. It grows wild from Taiwan to the former Soviet Union, Bulgaria, and the Mediterranean coast, and most of them grow on the coast. There are about 120 species. The stems are well branched and the leaves are basal. The flowers are very small and there are countless flowers on all the branches. It is used as cut flowers and in flower beds. The sinuatum species is treated as an autumn-sown annual plant and is the most commonly cultivated. It is also called Hanahamasaj. It has long lanceolate leaves and blooms purple-blue or pink flowers in May and June. It is often used as a dried flower. The sinensis species is a perennial plant with glossy oblong leaves and blooms pale yellow flowers in June and July. The Latifolium species is a perennial plant, and the countless flowers resemble fireworks, hence the name Niwahanabi. The leaves are greenish-gray and long oval, and the wisteria-colored flowers bloom in July and August. Perezii is a perennial plant, and is grown in a greenhouse and shipped all year round.

Although it is highly cold-resistant, it does not grow well in shady or humid areas, so plant it in a sunny, well-drained location. For propagation, Sinuatum is propagated by seed, while the others are propagated by division and seed, but in recent years, seedlings propagated by tissue culture (meristem) have become widely available.

イソマツ科（APG分類：イソマツ科）イソマツ（リモニウム）属の総称で、耐寒性・耐乾燥性の強い一年草または多年草。スターチスは旧属名である。台湾から旧ソ連地域、ブルガリア、地中海沿岸にかけて自生し、ほとんどが海浜生で、約120種ある。茎はよく分枝し、葉は根生する。花はごく小さく、分枝のすべてに無数につく。切り花や花壇に使われる。シヌアーツムsinuatum種は秋播(ま)きの一年草として扱われ、もっとも普通に栽培される。ハナハマサジともいう。葉は長披針(ちょうひしん)形で、5～6月、紫青または桃色の花を開く。ドライフラワーによく使われる。シネンシス種は多年草で、葉は長楕円(ちょうだえん)形でつやがあり、6～7月、淡黄色の花を開く。ラティフォリウム種は多年草で、花が無数につく姿を花火に見立て、ニワハナビの名もある。葉は緑灰色、長卵形で、7～8月、藤(ふじ)色の花を開く。また、ペレズィーは四季咲き性で、ハウス栽培で周年出荷される。

　耐寒性は強いが、日陰地や多湿地ではよく育たないので、日当りがよく、水はけのよい所に植える。繁殖はシヌアーツムは実生(みしょう)により、その他は株分けと実生によったが、近年は組織培養（メリクロン）による増殖苗が広く出回っている。
