An insect of the Lepidoptera, Pyralidae family. Wing span is 1-1.5cm. The forewings are gray with scattered black scales and have a grayish-white horizontal line slightly from the center toward the base, while the hind wings are white and translucent with slightly darker outer edges. The larvae are major pests of stored grains and dried foods, feeding on rice, wheat, beans, and their flour, buckwheat flour, bran, tobacco, etc., and are therefore also called the almond moth. English names include almond moth, fig moth, and date moth. They occur relatively frequently in imported rice because of the large amount of broken rice and flour.
