The name of the Central Japan Railway Company's track. The line stretches 195.8 km from Toyohashi (Aichi Prefecture) to Tatsuno (Nagano Prefecture), with double tracks only between Toyohashi and Toyokawa, and single tracks the rest of the way, and the entire line is DC electrified. It runs through the valleys of the Toyokawa and Tenryu rivers, connecting the Tokaido Main Line and the Chuo Main Line. Along the line are the cities of Toyokawa, Shinshiro, Iida, Komagane, and Ina, as well as tourist spots such as Mount Horaiji, Sakuma Dam, and Tenryukyo. It was originally built by four private railways: Toyokawa Railway (Toyohashi-Nagashino (now Oomi), opened 1897-1900, electrified in 1925), Horaiji Railway (Nagashino-Kawai (now Mikawakawai), opened 1923, electrified in 1925), Sanshin Railway (Mikawakawai-Tenryukyo, electrified opened 1932-1937), and Ina Electric Railway (Tenryukyo-Tatsuno, electrified opened 1909-1927), and was nationalized in 1943 (Showa 18) and became the Iida Line. In 1987, following the division and privatization of the Japanese National Railways, it became part of the Central Japan Railway Company. With the construction of Sakuma Dam, the line between Sakuma and Ozore was submerged and the route was changed to go through the valley of the Misakubo River and the Ohara Tunnel (5,063 meters long).
