A kingdom that existed in northwestern Uganda, East Africa, until 1967. According to legend, three dynasties took over the kingdom. The first, the Tembezi dynasty, was called the Kitara Kingdom, but it is a mythical kingdom whose existence has not yet been proven. It is said that the creator, Ruhanga, appointed his brother's four sons, Kakama, as king (Mukama), and ordered him to rule over the pastoralists, Hima, and the agriculturalists, Iru. The names of 18 kings remain in this kingdom. The second dynasty was founded by a people called the Batchewezi, who according to legend came from the north, were tall and had fair skin, and possessed advanced technology.
