Takesato Iida

Japanese:
Takesato Iida
Year of death: August 26, 1900 (Meiji 33)
Year of birth: 1828.1.22 (1828.1.22)
A scholar of Japanese classics from the late Edo and Meiji periods. His father was Iida Kojuro Taketoshi, a samurai of the Takashima domain in Shinshu (Nagano Prefecture). He was born in the domain's Edo residence. He initially studied Confucianism under Hattori Shibayama, but was later inspired by the writings of Motoori Norinaga and became a disciple of Hirata Atsutane after his death. During the Bunkyu era (1861-1864), he joined the movement to proclaim his respect for the Emperor, traveling from east to west with Ochiai Naoaki and others, but after the Meiji Restoration he was involved in the establishment of the Imperial Academy. In 1878 he became an official advisor to the Dajokan Shushikan (the History Museum) and later became a professor at the University of Tokyo, spending the latter half of his life in the academic world of the Meiji government. He began writing his life's work, the 70-volume Interpretation of the Nihon Shoki, at the age of 26, and spent his entire life completing it in 1899. The Interpretation speaks volumes about the meticulousness of his interpretations and proofreading. On the other hand, he was also said to be a heavy drinker, and his manners can be seen in the Gakukai Nichiroku and other books. <Works> "Nihon Shoki Tsuyaku" (Explanation of the Chronicles of Japan), 70 volumes <References> "Iida Takego-o-den" by Sakamoto Kiyama
