〘Noun〙① Another name for "Okegawado (Barrel-side Armor)". ※Otomo Kosho-ki (around 1637) - Battle of Tatarahama "A young warrior in barrel-shaped armor appeared from among the oaks, and struck without a moment's hesitation."② A type of drum. The barrel is shaped like a barrel. It produces a dull, rustic sound, so in Kabuki it is used in countryside scenes, Daikagura , and Kakubeijishi. ※Kabuki - Mikuni Micho Ryoyakubanashi (Wasureyaku) (1869) "In the attire of Ichi no Tengasa no Chikano , he carries a telescope tube at his waist and beats a barrel -shaped drum."

〘名〙① 「おけがわどう（桶側胴）」の異称。※大友興廃記（1637頃か）多多良浜合戦「陳の中より桶胴の鎧著たる早り雄の若武者、すきまもなくきってかかる」② 太鼓の一種。胴筒が桶のように作られているもの。鈍く、ひなびた音色が出るので、歌舞伎では田舎の場面や太神楽(だいかぐら)、角兵衛獅子などに用いられる。※歌舞伎・三国三朝良薬噺（忘れ薬）（1869）「一の天笠人親仁の装(なり)、遠目鏡の筒を腰にさし、桶胴(ヲケドウ)の太鼓を叩き」
