A blind musician in the mid-Edo period. His capital name was Fusaichi. He was a student of Yoshikawa Kengyo, a koto performer of the Yatsuhashi school in Osaka. He became a kengyo in 1756. By the time of Tenmei (81-89), he had composed many new-style hagauta pieces of jiuta. These became the model for subsequent haiku-style or joruri-style hagauta. In September 1760, his composition "Kakurenbo" (Hide and Seed) became popular as a new type of piece, and even led to the creation of alternative lyrics. Many of his compositions, such as "Tsuyu no Cho" (Letter to the Butterfly of the Dew), "Tsuufu Kami" (God Who Passes Through), and "Na no Ha" (Nabe Leaves), are representative hagauta pieces that are still performed today.
