According to the Akṣobhya Sutra, translated in Chinese in 147, in a past life, a monk heard the sermon of Mahavairocana in Abhirati, a land of joy in the east, and made a bodhisattva vow to be non-angerful. He received a prophecy from Mahavairocana that he would become an Akṣobhya. He is now the Buddha who rules over the land of joy, and encourages all living beings to go to the Pure Land. …
